Anton Akhmerov
symposium
Physicist Anton Akhmerov uses computer simulations to examine quantum mechanical systems and nano superconductors. He developed a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) through which he taught thousands of people about the topology of quantum mechanics. Akhmerov is a member of the Open access New Journal of Physics. Next to this he runs the Quantum Tinkerer workgroup at the TU Delft together with Michael Wimmer.
Anton Akhmerov will talk about how the research on quantum computing is carried out: what are the research directions, open challenges and what are the expectations of researchers themselves. He will distinguish between established, promising, and speculative results, and suggest ways on how to keep up with the quantum computing news—a task that is hard even to experts in the field. He will connect this to his personal experience of carrying out the research and discussing with fellow physicists.
